Welcome
Pocklington Women’s Institute was formed in 1943 and has about 50 members.
We meet at the Methodist Church on the second Wednesday of each month from 7.15pm to 9.15pm. Visitors are always welcome to attend our meetings. So if you’d like to see what we do, please come along, it’ll be lovely to see you.
Our monthly meetings start with the singing of Jerusalem and following a good sing business is discussed and each of our groups give an update on its activities. Each month we have a speaker, or some form of entertainment and following that tea and cake. We also have a competition each month, not too taxing and points can be gained towards a cup and prizes at the end of the year.
As well as our monthly meetings there are opportunities to get together through crafts and fundraising events. Also we usually meet for a coffee and a chat on the 4th Friday of the month with WI members and friends at The Feathers in Pocklington at 10.30am.
During the month of August we hold our official outing but inbetween we may organise extra outings which we'll mention at our monthly meetings and in our email newsletter. Examples of where we've been include visiting local gardens and places like Whitby and Boundary Mills.
We also have our own garden which is at the entrance to the world famous Burnby Hall Gardens. It was first established in 2005 and we aim to provide colour and interest for residents and visitors as they come into Pocklington.
