Welcome

Recreation Hall, Leven

Leven Recreation Hall, our meeting venue

Who We are

  • Leven WI began in 1953, we currently have a membership of 38 and are part of the East Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes
  • The Leven WI is a lively, friendly organisation and welcomes people of all ages to our meetings

Where We Meet

  • We meet at the Recreation Hall on East Street on the second Monday in the month at 7.30
  • We have full use of the kitchen facilities for meetings  and this also enables us to utilise it for special events or fundraising activities
  • The open space of the recreation hall allows us to enjoy lots of different activities as well as entertaining our speakers and craft demonstrations

What We Do

  • Throughout the year we have a varied programme of  speakers, demonstrations and workshops which we trust  appeals to all interests and tastes (see our current programme below)
  • We provide all our members with the Federation Newsletter which updates everyone on the excursions and workshops being held in the Federation as well as news from other WI’s and the National Federation
  • We also provide everyone with a copy of the last meeting’s minutes so we are able to discuss any outstanding business along with an agenda for the current meeting with a summary of workshops and outings as an easily accessed  aid memoir
  • We are proud to support local village activities and organisations  and have recently taken part in the Leven fun day as a part of the float procession and also providing tea and cakes in the Sports Hall
  • Outside the regular monthy meeting we hold a book club where members meet to discuss their chosen book
  • We are not just Jam and Jerusalem, although we do still stick to tradition and sing Jerusalem at the start of our meeting as it is so inspiring
  • We enjoy crafts of all types, but you will also find our members as keen to go rally driving, taking part in archery and sky diving
  • There is something for everybody at Leven WI and we are always keen to try new things
