Margaret Adderley

Junior Vice Chair

Margaret joined Mablethorpe WI in North Lincolnshire Federation in January 1962, following her marriage the previous October and moving back to her home town.  Her mother was a member, and whilst growing up had attended and joined in many events.  When Margaret joined her WI there were 100 members.  She became a demonstrator and visited many of the small village WIs.  At that time, the Electricity Board would take a cooker into the halls.  When she started a family in 1965 she had to stop her WI activities.  She was the first member of her WI to have a baby, and there is a photo of her and her husband Simon in the WI scrapbook.  She trained as a VCO (now Adviser) and enjoyed this until the late 80s, when family commitments took over again.  She was a member of the Federation Sports Committee, and held the positions of secretary and president (twice) of Mablethorpe WI.  On 4 March 2006 Margaret moved to Howden, and attended the March meeting of Howden WI.  Since then she has been president and secretary there.  She then joined the Federation Catering Committee and succeeded Margaret Dobbs as chairman, and soon after joined the board of trustees.  She has loved everything she has been involved with.  She has also loved their WI Group, and was the first Group Convener when groups were formed.  She remembers that they always had very good speakers.  She is convinced that the WI is written in her veins, and her advice to members is “Success is to be found in getting involved”.
